The Rise of Nationalism: A Necessity?

Eddy Rochelle
The Rochelle Report

The United States is not immune to the laws of history. What once started as a potent democratic force, based on the sound principles of Greek democracy and lessons learned throughout history has been overturned for the cause of direct leadership. As the United States embarks on a brave new journey in political purging, one must ask, will it be as violent as the revolutions of our predecessors?

In many cases the turn to totalitarian rule has followed a very eery pattern. The restrictions of free speech, movement, armament and education that become set in place basically prime a society to accept what is coming without question. It is the time tested method to grind a populace to the authoritarian will. One would be so brave, and insightful, as to say that America is experiencing that grinding effect today.

The guise of totalitarianism is often so stealthy, not even the lawmakers and analysts can see it. It often takes the common man to realize it and to take action against. Luckily our founding fathers envisioned a future in which their ideas, as benign as they were perceived, could incubate greed and corruption. Therefore they wrote in our constitution that is up to the people, not the government, to keep the nation afloat.

Blatant actions that have taken place since the early 1990s have cost the American people many rights, liberties and freedoms that we were blessed with. These actions have been taken with little or no cost to the now supreme and bloated central government. This is because the American people have been programmed to accept what has been handed to them. They have also technically been an experiment between agencies and corporations to further learn how to keep people silent.

With a sleeping mass and a roaring leadership, the dangerous notion of totalitarianism is slowly being recognized in America. The catalyst cannot be determined, because actions have been placed to infuriate all sides of the political spectrum. These were put into place to further splinter an already broken nation and to keep eyes drawn in a different direction while a supreme agenda was being devised.

Now that the government is clearly leaning to Socialism, what many Americans believe to be the furthest left that you can go, will the next swing be a nationalist leader? Trends in history would definitely suggest that this would be so, even if the paradigm is shifted from right to left. People do not tend to like surrendering their country to a cause or reason that does not sit well with the populous, therefore they will gear up to defend their borders, language and culture.

This is being seen in America to this day, although in a very shattered way. Different groups of people are preparing for something that they feel is coming down the pike. Usually when everything has come to a head, that something is their country and the people they gear up against is their duly elected government.

Our country's creators intended for every American to embody their patriotism, pride and fighting spirit. They defeated the largest, best equipped army on Earth barefoot and starving. They also cherished the fact that liberals and conservatives could sit in the same room without the fear of imprisonment or death for the sharing of their ideals. We as a nation do not have these characteristics anymore. We still sit in the same rooms, halls and restaurants, however we keep to ourselves and pride ourselves in individualism.

Therefore, the United States is in dire need of a nationalist shot. This country is struggling to be just that: a country.
This doesn't mean to wrap yourself blindly in a flag and proudly call yourself an American. The re-education of our youth on American values, history and government is the very foundation of this idea. Without a properly educated youth, our nation is doomed to the third-world in a hurry. Also, the cries of our voices to protect our constitutional rights and liberties are very important to the blood of our future generations.

With this being said, the nationalist movement in America will no doubt become larger, stronger and louder than possibly ever before. People are seeing a new crown to conquer, a new tyranny to prevail against and this monster is growing more powerful every waking moment of our existence. Our country needs a strong nationalist movement to preserve our slot in the present as well as the future and not to fall as just another footnote in history books.
